Guild Wars 2 Sylvari Race Intro Cinematic

Sylvari

The Sylvari are a young, inquisitive race of botanical humanoids spawned from the Pale Tree in Arbor Bay - the first Sylvari emerging in 1302 AE. The tree was planted by Ronan and raised by Ventari, who were attempting to escape the violence that engulfed Tyria.

Sylvari are not born. They awaken beneath the Pale Tree with knowledge gleaned in their pre-life Dream. These noble beings travel, seeking adventure and pursuing quests. They struggle to balance curiosity with duty, eagerness with chivalry, and warfare with honor. Magic and mystery entwine to shape the future of this race that has so recently appeared.

During character creation, a player can customize a Sylvari's physical appearance and answer three race specific biography questions which affect their personal story:

  • Which quest they dreamed of.
  • Most important of Ventari's teachings.
  • What day time cycle they were born in.
    Cycle of Dawn: These Sylvari are typically diplomatic and friendly, and are naturals when it comes to planning and conversing with others.
    Cycle of Noon: Those born at this time are fighters, skilled combatants who prefer actions over words. They prefer to experience things firsthand and attack problems head-on.
    Cycle of Dusk: Those born in the Cycle of Dusk are usually intelligent and philosophical. They enjoy studies and puzzles over physical pursuits.
    Cycle of Night: Sylvari of the Cycle of Night are inclined to be secretive and self-contained, preferring to travel alone.

Selecting a Sylvari character will start players off in the tutorial [zone=312][/zone] where players fight the corruption within the Dream of Dreams before awakening.

The Sylvari home instance is in the [zone=104][/zone] in .
Sylvari racial skills focus on themes of plant manipulation.

After you wake from the dream you are naked until you talk to the nearby NPC with a quest marker on.
It confused me at first!

what surprises me is the enormous variance players can acheive with this race compared to others. Thanks to the large variance of skin colors, separate glow color, eye pattern/color and body patterns in addition to the regular stuff (which varies a lot as sylvari dont follow biological norms that other meaty races do),

there are very few sylvari who look exactly the same.

It's not cannibalism and it's not genocide. Sylvari may be plants, but they're not eating their own species and not killing off any race/species. The relationship between a Sylvari and a tree is the same as a human to a cat.

Probably the same question, as I have had at the pre launch when chopping wood for my trade note I'm playing human, Is it genocide when an Sylvari is chopping wood?
